Fourth of July in Dana Point is a riot!! It's the biggest party of the year for as long as anyone can remember. The fireworks (paid for by the city) climax occurs off a barge in Dana Point Harbor, so the 2,000 boat harbor becomes the epicenter of the celebration all day long. Daytime temperature is hovering around 65 and the afternoon is sunny. No better place to be than Eliana for the weekend.
We are located at the end of K dock. Each dock has it's own character, but each has its own events and entertainment. There are three different parties on K dock with music, lots of food and 'um beverages. The atomosphere is absolutely festive, but family oriented. Most of the boats are dressed in red, white and blue to honor our great country. Families have been camping and sleeping in boats for a couple days just so they are assured to have their spot. A happier time would be hard to imagine.
But the most amazing Independence Day tradition in Dana Point is the water fights. Yes, water fights. This is more than the casual skirmish, it's an all out water war. Water balloons were outlawed some years ago for obvious reasons and water guns are, well ineffective. Water canons, fire hose pumps and buckets are the weapons of choice. Allied coalitions are critical because there is strength in numbers. Strategic maneuvers have evolved from generation to generation. And, by the way, all ages get involved although we understand 'under 21' age bracket is growing.
